Fun Series.

Postby trail cachers on Thu Jan 28, 2010 11:18 pm

Just an update on this years trip. Last summer we went to an event in Oxbow Saskatchewan and we met two couples, scratch1 & bennykidd from Saskatoon and cached with them for a couple of days and hit it off really well. We discovered that they were going to be in the Palm Springs area the same time that we were here doing some caching with some old friends T&C. Well to make a long story short we hooked up with them and decided to do some power caching and away we went. Now I have to tell you that this area makes the Salt Lake City area look like Wyoming. It is just unbelieveable. We have had 6 days of over 50 caches and 3 days over 75 and our best was 117 in one day. They have some really fun series here. Here is one of the caches that is a part of one. GC1M5J0
If you will look at the google map and go out enough to see the entire series you will see what I mean. Just to the northeast of it 3-4 miles another series starts and we completed it today. It took 3 1/2 hours and we averaged a cache every 5 minutes, We could have done it in half that time but with all the rain that we have had lately the road was not too good.
We did hit the 5000 mark today and are going out again tomorrow to keep it going. What a blast to go out with like minded friends and see some new country.
Oh yes we did cache in the snow at Yucca Valley today enough to remind us of home.

OK, now I'm really green with envy  . Not that you're having so much fun in the retirement mode (I'm getting closer day by day) or that you managed so many caches in power runs (I got a whooping 17 in one day once) nor even that one of the power runs was in the shape of a heart (I'm working on one in the San Rafeal area of Utah on my ATV - GC1F6XA). However, how many of us cachers will ever, ever get the opportunity to cache in the snow for crying out loud!!!

Seriously, it's great that you're having such a wonderful time and congratulations on the milestone of 5000. Thanks for allowing us back home here to vicarioulsy live the experiences with you, keep us updated on all the fun you are having.

UPDATES ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED!

I'm with Ellis and am very jealous of your lifestyle, it seems like a perfect life to me. You get to spend the months that are really miserable here in nice weather places. You get to cache every day in places where they are everywhere. Maybe one of these days Ellis and I will be able to the same thing (seems like a long way off to me right now, a little over 4 years). But seriously, send us an update when you are bored in the evenings (ya like that happens!). Have fun and we are looking forward to seeing you again so you can tell us all about it.

You know there has to be some advantage of getting old. It is a lot of fun to just wander as there are many things in this great country to see. I would look forward to doing a trip with any of you when you are over the hill too. Oh wait. I hear another cache calling. Got to go.

Interesting - very interesting. These are mostly on dirt - gravel roads down along the CA/AR border?? Congrats on passing the 5000 mark.

They are all out of the Desert Hot Springs, Indio, and Palm Springs area They are mostly on desert roads, rock and sand, Would not be good for the motorcycle.
S&BC has a series east of Indio that has about 20 or so caches on it that is the old highway along I10 that is paved and easy. We are heading to Hemet for an event and then on Sunday to Phoenix to meet up with another caching friend to check out the north end of town.

We had a fun experience yesterday. The group of 8 of us were caching in Hemit,CA and another car drives up and I hear "It looks like someone from Wyoming" Well It was Bob from S&BC. He and his daughter were out grabbing a few and what are the odds on being at the same cache at the same time in an area of 1000's. We had a really nice visit and then on our way.
Today we are moving to Surprize AZ to see if we can help a dedicated puzzle cacher friend knock off some really difficult puzzles there.
