This past weekend definitely felt like spring here in Rawlins, I hope it was the same wherever you are. On Saturday, the ice and snow on the street to the east of our house was melting but was not actually flowing to the storm sewer so my grand-daughter Kayla and I got busy chipping away. We started at the neighbors house since it was open at that point and moved slowly through our drive. WE also opened up an area at the lane in the driveway where Peggy uses to go into the garage since it would have been a huge hump to go over otherwise. After about 2 hours of work, we had enough chipped away that the water was flowing pretty nicely. We went for a mile walk at that point since it was so pleasant. By the time we got back, all the water had drained so it exposed the ice even further. It was very pleasant and one could feel the presence of spring and I even eyed the ice and snow in the driveway blocking my motorcycle but didn't have the ambition to tackle that job. The next morning after Peggy left for church, I was outside showing my old Ford pickup to a neighbor who is interested in buying it so got busy chipping away at the ice in the driveway. Before long, I had enough removed that I could get the motorcycle out. I unplugged the battery tender and slowly backed the bike out of the garage and into the driveway. I started the bike up and away I went with no gear on whatsoever (no jacket, no gloves, no helmet). I thought that I'd go around the block but by the time I was back, I had ridden about a mile and my hands were going numb from the cold. I needed gas so stopped at the house, put on my jacket, gloves and helmet and was off to get gas. After I got gas, I decided to ride through town and do the Wagon Circle loop. When I got back home, I had ridden 9 miles and was ready for more. Since Peggy had just gotten home from church, I asked if she wanted to ride the bike to Sinclair and have lunch at Su Casa and she agreed! On the way there, she told me that she didn't think she was ready to ride to Saratoga or Laramie just yet and although I gave her a bad time, I really wasn't either as the cold was creeping into my body as well. It was so good to be back on the bike, I wore a smile for the rest of the day. I am confident that from now on, the bike will sit in the garage for periods of time but there will be those days where I will be able to get out on the bike and blow away the spring fever I will be experiencing again. We will get snow but it will melt off before it has a chance to turn into ice and block the driveway again. I am very much looking forward to 60+ degree weather so we can ride and not freeze but a short ride here and there will keep me going. I've been thinking about a geocaching trip to Thermop/Worland one of these weekends when pleasant weather is predicted. There are lots of caches there for us to hunt and it should be a good time. I might drop the bike off in Lander to be serviced at the same time thus making the trip even more productive. Does anybody else have spring fever like I do?
Anything can be fixed using Duct tape or WD40...
If it moves & it shouldn't, use the Duct tape
If it doesn't move and it should, use the the WD40
