Fun weekend

Postby Rubiconlwb on Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:14 am

We had a great weekend last weekend even though we didn't do any caching! Hard to believe but we can do that upon occasion! We went to Casper to visit our son and his wife, do some shopping, meet our Grand-daughter and her other grandparents and just hang out. I decided to haul my motorcycle up there in the trailer so I could do a little riding while we were there. I had taken Friday off as a vacation day and Peggy was able to get off early so we were able to leave town about 2:30 in the afternoon, thus arriving in Casper before 5:00. Our son has Friday afternoons off in the summer and his wife is a school teacher who is not teaching summer school right now so we were able to visit for a while when we got there before heading off to eat. We went to Olive Garden since it is very new and all four of us like the food there. We got back to their house about 8:00 after taking a short tour of Casper after dinner (we went and saw the house a good friend of Kelly's just bought). We watched a movie in their basement on Kelly's awesome Sony home theater and went to bed about midnight. I got up about 8:00 and used my netbook for a while until everybody got up. We decided we would go to the grocery store and buy stuff to make sandwiches and drive (ride) up on Casper Mountain for a picnic. I decided to ride my motorcycle which I did and it was a great ride. Kelly and Jen took their dog Sadee (a black lab) since she just loves going for rides and they wanted to take her for a couple walks while up on the mountain. We pulled into the first campground we came to and had a terrific lunch and then just visited, took the dog for a walk and even took her to a nearby meadow and took some pictures of her which they are going to have blown up and framed. It was much cooler on the mountain so we lingered until it looked like it might rain at which time we headed off the mountain back to the city. When we got home, we decided we would head over to the fairgrounds to check things out over there. We wandered around there for a couple hours, eating a snack of corn dogs and Indian tacos as well as watching an entertaining hypnotist and looking around the displays. When we got back home, we just visited and relaxed around the house. The next day, the plan was to meet our daughter LeAnn at the house. She was driving up to get her dog from Kayla's other grandparents. They were watching the dog while LeAnn and her husband went to Las Vegas for a vacation where they renewed their vows in celebration of their 10th year anniversary. Kayla had been staying with her grandparents for the week the dog was there plus she was returning with her grandparents to Wright for another week with them. They are going to Rapid City tomorrow for a couple days of R&R. Then next weekend she will meet her Mom in Casper for the transfer so she can go back home. We all met at the house and then headed off to Johnny J's for lunch. It was pretty warm outside so we ate on the patio and had a good meal and great conversation. I rode my bike to lunch and then rode around outer drive and back through town just to take another ride. When I got back to the house, we all headed out to do some final shopping before we had to head for home. When that was done, we loaded the trailer on the pickup then loaded the bike up and away we headed, back home. We got home last night about 9:00 and were both a whirlwind of activities unloading the bike and the trailer and then unloading all our stuff from the pickup. About 9:30 we were able to sit and rest for a while before heading off for bed. It was a fun weekend yet tiring. Since our buddy Jake has hidden a few more caches in the past week, we are thinking we will go out tonight to see if we can't pick up a few more to make up for the fact we didn't do any caching all weekend. Before we know it, it will be time to go to Sturgis and then off to the overnighter! Wow, this summer has gone by quickly! What a shame!

Wow Lee it sounds like you had a great time. It is always fun to spend time with family just to visit.
Kim just spent last week with our daughter and granddaughter down in Saltlake. She was there for moral support because our son in law just left for his training with the army before heading to Afganistan.
After Kim got home she was totally exausted so I packed her up and we went to Jackson for a couple of days (monday and Tuesday) .
After a diner Monday night at the bar-j-wranglers ( awsome steak and show ) we retired to our room around 10pm. At around 4:30am I woke up so I just walked around the area a while. I let Kim sleep in until 6:00am. With a good start to the day we had a great time caching on our way home.
Summer is so busy and like you said it is going by so fast, every little trip is nice.

Happy caching everyone and may the cool breezes of summer blow your way.

There are getting to quite a few new caches in the Rawlins lately. I have to go pick up my mother from SD and either take her back or to Casper the following weekend the first week of August.

I always enjoyed the Bar J Wranglers when I spent most of my college summers living and working up in Jackson.

Jake has been pretty busy placing caches the past couple weeks, we still have 5 to find. We were going to go out tonight but a heavy thunderstorm with rain changed our minds. I enabled a cache that i placed for the Brownbag that has been out of action since then. We would love to go to the Bar J Wranglers one of these days too.

The weekend isn't over yet but we have already had a fabulous one! We had decided a couple days ago that whatever day looked the best, we would take a ride to Laramie via the Snowy Range or Woods Landing and returning the other. When we got up this morning, it was just beautiful so we decided this would be the day. We did not get an early start, leaving about 11:00. There was virtually no wind and it was warm but not hot so it looked very good for a ride. We stopped in Saratoga and had breakfast at Del Rio and had a nice relaxing visit. We thought we would go to Laramie via Riverside and Woods Landing then come home over the Snowy Range. It was a beautiful ride through the mountains and was very relaxing. When we got to Laramie, we stopped at the Harley shop to look around and 'window shop' as it were. The shop was very busy and I looked at and drooled over the various new bikes even though I love my bike and am not in the market for a new bike. I found a black tee shirt which I bought and also looked at and tried on several helmets since we are thinking about getting full face helmets and needed to check sizes. When we left the Harley shop, we didn't need to or want to go anywhere so we went to Shari's and had a very decedant dessert which the waitress told us they had removed all the calories from. It was delicious and very filling. We bought gas and headed out of town toward home. We stopped in Centennial just to stretch and watch the tourists a while. We also stopped at the observation area above Lake Marie and enjoyed the view and took a few pictures and then on toward home. We got home about 7:00 and although we were both tired, it was a marvelous day! So now it looks like we will have to do some work tomorrow as a payback for having the fun we did today. We might try to throw some caching in since there are 9 new caches we have not had the chance to go look for yet! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I had H, my wife, on a caching bike ride for only the 2nd time since our son was born on a rare few hours alone with her. We headed for the border - Utah - for a cache on either side of the border and one on it as the sun was setting. Then we had a great journey home in the twilight watching the moon rise above the skyline and glow our way back home.

You paint a great picture of you and Helen riding back home in the coolness of the evening, enjoying each other's company. In my opinion, it just doesn't get any better than that. Off with your best friend, riding your motorcycle, doing some geocaching and enjoying the prettiest time of the dayj. Congrats!
